EV Range vs Football Team Endurance: Who outlasts the charge?
As the official partner of UEFA EURO 2024, we're looking back on the last tournament stats from 2020 to illustrate the impressive endurance of BYD's electric car lineup.
We've compared Europes best footballers to our impressive electric cars; the BYD DOLPHIN, which won 'Car of the Year' by Carbuyer New Car Awards, and the BYD SEAL, which was shortlisted in the top three for World Car of the Year 2024.
We'll unveil how many UEFA Euros teams the BYD DOLPHIN and BYD SEAL EVs could outpace, and how many games it would take for each Euros player to cover the same distance on just one charge...

Italy covered the furthest distance in the Euros tournament
The UEFA EURO 2020 winners not only won the trophy after defeating England on penalties, but also covered the most distance (km) during their seven games in the tournament.
The Italian players collectively covered a staggering 901.8km (560 miles). That's 60 miles more than the distance between Italy and Switzerland, or double the distance between popular tourist destinations, Venice and Rome.
Italy also took the top spot for the furthest distance covered per game. On average, their players covered a distance of 128.8km (79 miles) per game. However, when comparing that to the BYD DOLPHIN on a full charge, the DOLPHIN far surpasses some of the world's best footballers.
The average range of the BYD DOLPHIN on a full charge is 426.5km (265 miles) - the equivalent of a road trip between Milan and Florence and over three times the average distance covered by the Italian team per game.
THE BYD SEAL can cover 570km (354 miles) on a full charge, which is almost 4.5 times the distance covered by the Italian players during each game. That's enough range to travel from Venice to Napoli!
The BYD SEAL covers more distance on one charge than 19 teams
When analysing the total distance all teams in the 2020 tournament covered, the BYD SEAL ranks seventh overall, covering more mileage in one charge than 19 teams!
The SEAL can outpace some of the best-performing teams historically at the tournament, including three-time UEFA Euro winners Germany and two-time winners France.
Similarly impressive, the BYD DOLPHIN would rank 14th, outpacing 11 of the world's best teams on one charge!
UEFA Euro 2016 winners Portugal, the Netherlands (often regarded as the best football team that has never won the FIFA World Cup) and Wales are just some national football teams the DOLPHIN could outpace on one charge.
England covered the second furthest distance in the tournament but the DOLPHIN could surpass this with just two charges
England achieved a close second for the total distance covered in the tournament. They covered a total distance of 805.5km (500 miles) across seven games. However, the DOLPHIN could outpace the England team in just two charges, covering a distance of 853km (a huge 530 miles) - just short of the total distance it would take to drive the length of the UK.
Spain outpaces England with the furthest distance covered per game, less than a quarter of the SEAL's range
Semi-finalist Spain is one of the world's greatest teams, boasting some of the best athletes in football. While they didn't reach the UEFA Euro final, Spain's players covered more distance per game than England's finalists.
Spain ran an average of 127.4km (79 miles) per game, compared to England's 115.1km (72 miles) covered per game. To outlast just one charge on the SEAL, Spain would have to more than quadruple their number of games to achieve the same distance.
Likewise, to outperform the DOLPHIN, the team would need to play three times more games to break even with the EV.
The rest of the top five countries covering the most distance per game are Sweden (119km), Austria (118.5km) and Switzerland (115.8km).
Türkiye covered over 250km less than the SEAL can cover on one charge
Türkiye travelled the shortest distance in the tournament during their three games, covering 311.9km (194 miles). That's a staggering 258km (160 miles) less than the BYD SEAL can cover on one charge or 113km shorter than the BYD DOLPHIN.
Of all the teams playing three games - or 270 minutes - Russia was the only one to travel the furthest distance at 337.4km (210 miles).
As mentioned above, the BYD SEAL and DOLPHIN can surpass even some of the greatest teams in the world in just one charge, lasting 570km (354 miles) and 426.5km (265 miles) respectively.
For those looking to improve their sustainability and switch to an EV, look at the features of the BYD DOLPHIN and BYD SEAL. Or, if you're looking for a hybrid car, discover the BYD SEAL U DM-i. Combining electric power from an 18.3kWh battery with a fuel-efficient engine, you can achieve a combined range of 1080km (671 miles) - outperforming even Europe's best football teams.
