São Paulo, Brazil - A hit with the public and critics in Brazil, the BYD DOLPHIN has just been elected Car of the Year 2024, the main category in the traditional awards held by AutoEsporte magazine, published by Globo. This is the first time that a clean energy model has won one of the country's most significant and prestigious awards. Launched in Brazil in June, the BYD DOLPHIN has achieved successive sales records in the Brazilian market and was the highlight of the awards ceremony held on November 30 at an event in São Paulo.
AutoEsporte gives the award, now in its 57th year, annually to models that have stood out for attributes such as design, safety, price and technology during the year. The jury was made up of journalists and specialists, all of whom represent and work professionally in the automotive sector.
"We are delighted to have been recognized with such an important and prestigious award. It represents the result of the quality, innovation, high technology and, above all, cost-effectiveness that the Dolphin has shown and which has ended up changing the concept of the electric car in the country," said Tyler Li, General Manager of BYD in Brazil.
The General Manager of BYD Brazil, Tyler Li, was also honored by AutoEsporte magazine. Li received the award in the Executive of the Year category, the first by a Chinese in the history of the awards.
Tyler Li has been in charge of BYD's operations in Brazil since the company arrived in the country in 2014. In addition to the sales success in 2023, Greentech announced an investment of R$3 billion to build a manufacturing complex in Camaçari, Bahia.
The first car factory outside Asia is expected to start production between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025. It will have the capacity to produce 150,000 electric and hybrid vehicles per year.
"I'm very happy to receive this award. BYD's mission is to reduce emissions in the country and invest in research and development to modernize the industry in Brazil," said Mr. Tyler.
In addition to the title awarded by AutoEsporte magazine, the BYD DOLPHIN was also the highlight of the Car Magazine event, which took place in São Paulo. The model was voted "Best Electric Car" in the tenth edition of the "Car Awards Brasil 2024". Portal Terra / Trend Car 2024 also announced another award won by the model, where it won the "Electric Car" category.
"All of these awards are very important because they reflect BYD's goals of expanding the electrified car market. In addition, they further reinforce our commitment to investing in the country and offering innovative and sustainable products, with an aggressive and innovative commercial policy that meets our customers' expectations," added Henrique Antunes, BYD's Sales Director in Brazil.
